Korn Ferry Global Study Cites Lack of Executive
Sponsorship as the Chief Roadblock to Leadership Development Success
Half
of Executive Respondents Describe Leadership Development Investments as “Fair”
to “Very Poor”
I have chosen this news story because it talks about
leadership development. I am a firm
believer in leadership and what it stands for.
I believe in any organization it is outlined by the roles of our
leaders. If you don’t have a great
leader you will not have a great product or worker. This news article goes with the readings for
week 2. The strategic-control
perspective sees communicators as having multiple goals. Competent communicator is one who chooses
strategies that are appropriate for accomplishing multiple goals. With that said this, article points out that
only 55% respondent’s ranking their return on such efforts at only “fair” or
“very poor.” I think that is a very high
number to have for an organization not to perform higher than just “fair” or
“very poor” at leadership development. This
organizational advisory firm, will help organizations to be more successful and
have better outcomes. Having leaders go
all in is where you need to start. You
have to build that trust and relationship for people to believe what you are
trying to accomplish as an organization.
Some organizations are very successful, for they have made successful
leadership development as part of their culture and every day work. All organizations need to make leadership
development a high priority to build a connection.

ReplyDeleteThis organization (Korn Ferry) featured in the article provides the service of helping other orgs develop leadership within their own org. I think an org that invests in the development of people practices communication as a balance of creativity and constraint. The objective of developing an orgs situated individual's talents is a sign that the org recognizes the micro perspective that individuals shape the work environment, increase profits, and operate ethically. I think that communication of a good leader should avoid strategic ambiguity and own his message while maintaining a healthy duality of structure to engage his team to perform at their highest level.

Not only does this article highlight the need for leadership development, it highlights the need for ongoing leadership development. What I took away from reading this article was that people in leadership positions need to create an organizational communication readiness for training to continually take place to make certain that leadership is not becoming complacent, this is the surest way for employees to become complacent. Having leadership with sharp skills is ever-important in today’s business world.

ReplyDeleteI highly enjoyed reading this article because I too agree that strong leadership is key in organizations. It is important for the employees to create a relationship with those who do the leading so that trust, respect and communication can be formed. When there are leadership trainings in the company it can be very helpful because you will find that it creates more success within the company. These trainings need to occur frequently and it needs to be exercised often or else it does no good. In the article it said during the harder times are when leadership needs to be exercised. A good leader should be able to communicate, be honest, be committed, keep a positive attitude and know how to approach their fellow workers when leadership is needed.

I definitely agree with everything this article says about leaders in the workplace and the ongoing work leaders need to continue to do to keep a business successful and can also help the culture to keep improving. I feel like the business I work for is a great example of continuing to better the culture of the company by having good leaders that want to keep improving. Without improvement with company growth, the company will eventually go under rather than continue to stay profitable.

ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting to see what specific global organizations are part of the Korn Ferry;s study. Some of these organizations may be only a top down style of dialogue with employees not having any opportunity to communicate there ideas. Strong leaderships is important in any organization and it is critical that the leader also participates in the professional development with his/her staff. This builds a common understanding of where the organization is heading along with mutual respect, trust and willingness for everyone to speak out and take risks without fear of reprisal in order to create a better organization.

ReplyDeleteI believe that having strong leadership rolls throughout a company is extremely important. In history leadership hasn't been as prominent as it is in the business world today. I think that in history most businesses have been run more as a dictatorship style than a democratic group style, which isn't always effective. I liked how the article said that leadership development needs to shift from a 'nice to have' to a 'must have' business process. I believe that having leadership within all levels of a corporation is extremely important to the success and progress of a business.

ReplyDeleteLeadership needs to be instilled in a company. With out it there would be a lot less order. I really like how this article talked about how leadership is the key in organizations. Some one needs to step up in situations and be the leader so everyone is on the same page and knows what is expected and needed.

ReplyDeleteMy feelings and thoughts on leadership have changed drastically since I took my new job, mostly because I feel that the company has a definite need for leadership change. I am currently taking MGMT 372 Foundations of Leadership, so I have been thinking and writing about this a lot for that class as well. In that class, we recently talked about leaders versus managers. At my job we have managers, but an absolute lack of strong leaders. After working my current job, I feel that every company should have some sort of leadership training that is strongly based on communication. Two of the managers that I deal with daily have very poor communication, and it makes it very hard for them to lead, and very hard for other associates to keep a positive attitude, as the attitude is generally very negative from the highest up manager that is in our store often. All in all, I feel that leadership training can definitely help companies in every way, but especially in employee satisfaction.
