PAR 8: Host Joe Wright

I picked this article because it takes a look at the leader of the organization and shows what exactly it implies for the leader. It is a neat article in the way that it divides everything up and shows different sides of things. When I think of an organization, some times I think of it as one dimensional. But when you take a step back, you see all of the crazy interweaving that can happen and you really see all the gears and mechanics that make it run. I just really enjoy seeing things from a different perspective that I may not have seen before.

I think that this was a great article that you chose for the week. Communication is critical in any situation, whether in the workplace of an organization or even just working on a school project. To be successful in an organization everyone has to be committed to making it work. Having good role models to set examples is always a huge key. One thing I read in this article is that it's okay to ask questions and I couldn't agree more because many people will not ask, but really asking helps solve the problem and will create a better outcome for you, but to do so you need to be able to communicate. Like you mentioned, it's not as one dimensional as we may think, there's a lot that goes into making an organization run.

This article represented and provided great insight towards the importance of communication within an organization. A key message that I received from reading this article was the importance of consistancy when it comes to the communication that is being distributed amongst an organization as a whole. The article states that in order to have effective communication it must be presented in a clear and consistent message. One thing we must remember as communicators though is that others may obtain information at different rates or in different ways, so we might have to make adjustments in the design of our messages in order to get the most effective message to all of those that need to receive it. Success is directly effected by those who deliver information though communication outlets within an organization.

This article is great for this week since we are talking about communication in organizations. Effective communication is important in any organization, but more importantly effective communication from a manager is vital to keeping an organization transparent and consistent. Personally, I have a manager that is not very good at communication except when it is something that needs to be done right that second and she has forgotten to communicate prior to the event or she forgets all around and we end up hearing about what she was supposed to communicate through the grapevine. This can create panic and disorientation in the workplace, making one wonder if going to the manager to talk to them is really the right choice.

I loved this article! I would like to show this to every boss that I have ever had. This article encapsulates the concepts that we have discussed with our organizational communication textbook. I like the clear expectations for the employees. I think that is one of the biggest gripes in my workplace, which I will probably be covering in my observations.

Great article for this week’s lesson. Key word “communicate.” I think there is a lack of communication from leaders to those who actually do the work. I have always said, “If you have a leader that knows how to lead, then you can achieve just about anything.” When you have leaders who feel they don’t need to communicate, makes you feel like your opinion doesn’t count. I think if you are a leader that has an open door and you feel comfortable approaching them, leaves the communication open to any conversation. If you have a leader where you don’t feel like you can walk in and talk to them, then that changes the communication between you and that leadership team. A leader can either make or break the dynamics of the organizations future.

Like Marissa said above, I wish the managers at my workplace would read this article. There is a huge lack of communication, and no matter how much I try to communicate it does not help because our store manager is not willing to communicate. He knows he is a bad communicator, but does not do anything to try and be better. It turns into a joke between him and the other managers and employees, but is never seen as something he could improve on. I have been in two similar retail environments in the last five years of my life, one with clear expectations and one with very murky expectations. I have learned that there is a huge difference in the quality of a job and workplace when the communication is good and expectations are clear.

Effective communication is a very important aspect in any company. If ideas, instructions, or thoughts are not communicated in a way that someone will understand them, the organization needs figure out an effective way to communicate. In the article, there was mention that employees often times don't know what is expected of them in ways of communication. I think that is something that needs to be established when the employees are starting out. This would eliminate the small mistakes that the employees are making in ways of communication. Without the clear communication expectations for the employee to follow, it would be difficult to them to understand who they should communicate with.

Great article on how organizations need to keep an open line of communication. Truly, effective communication comes from top down, but it is the behind the scenes workings of teams that make everything run effectively and efficiently in an organization. Everyone in an organization has specific roles and job performance expectations, which when running smoothly you get a great team. In order for an organization to run efficiently open communication is critical, whether it is face to face, phone, email, text, snapchat, etc.

This article seems to stress the importance of interorganizational communication networks. The article states that it starts with the CEO of the organization being true to the companies values, and then down the tiers of leadership till you get to the end employee. With leadership collaborating to develop consistency of their message to be delivered through themselves as emergent communication networks that can balance inquiry and advocacy from the members of the organization that look to them for answers or direction.
