I chose this article as i felt it was a short to the point description of what organizational alignment is. The article defines organizational alignment as the glue that makes for excellent execution of strategy. The correlation between our text and the article is the strategy, talent, and performance held together by org alignment to achieve desired results. The flow chart depicted in the article is comparable to the 7s diagram, in fact i think it is easier to understand but both are good visuals of organizational alignment. Besides the authors irritating spelling of "organisational" i thought it was a simple read that gave a broad definition to cover all the facets of organizational alignment.

Good article for the week in comparison with what the chapter is about. Having an aligned organization means that that all aspects of the organization are aligned with the strategy - operationally and strategically. Without these parts being aligned, a good solid strategic plan will never fully be achieved. I actually had never heard of this term until going through the chapter, so it definitely was interesting for me to look into it a little bit more.

I think the title is perfect for this week’s article. Having one person out of place could through the whole project off. You have to know what the goal is and how you as a team will plan on achieving that goal. If you all aren’t on the same page, then you will never accomplish the task that is being asked. That is why teamwork, communication, and understanding is so big when it comes to goals for an organization. One major piece, is TRUST! You have to trust those in your organization. If there is that lack of trust, could be hard to achieve the goal and win.

This article is a great example of how teams in an organization need to work together in order to achieve outcomes that are wanted or needed. The example of the rowers in the article was a great example of how people need to work together and be on the same page to make goals achievable. If there is one person on the team within the organization that is not on the same page as the rest of the team, then they usually cause the goal to become harder to achieve or even prevent the goal from being achieved at all.

I like this organizational alignment flow chart. It is similar enough to the 7-S, but it also gives a little more intention of motion or action that moves throughout to reach a point of success. A big part of organizational communication is the achievement of goals, which both this chart and the 7-S model lend themselves to.

ReplyDeleteGreat article choice it really cleared some stuff up for me. I love how they used a rowing team as an example. If you and your team all know what you want and what goal you have set for yourselves, you just have to get synchronized. You need to all work towards a common goal to be able to achieve greatness. If just one person is not pulling their weight than everyone can suffer from it. It is a huge thing that everyone can work towards one goal not just individual stuff. With out this alignment, there is no order and there is no sense of drive in the group. It is extremely important to keep this and make this alignment happen.

I really like the article because it fits well with the chapter. I think the organizational alignment has to align with the strategy in order to achieve the goals that have been set. If everyone is focusing on a project together the goal can be achieved in a timely manner, but when one person gets off track it tends to affect everyone else's focus too. The end result would be not being able to meet the deadline for the goal. Everyone needs to trust that each person will focus and stay on track to achieve the common goal.

Good choice on the article. In order for your organization to perform at a high standard you have to work together as a cohesive group. Basically organizational alignment is making sure that everyone knows what their role is and what they have to do to perform together to get to the next level.

This article goes great with this weeks chapter and short assignment that deals with the chapter. Like you said the 7s model is very similar to what is represented within this article. The 7s model is what helps to create and communicate organizational alignment. The model helps to ensure that everyone know what is expected with in an organization in order for them to be successful as one whole organization along with being successful as individuals. If the organization stays aligned then they will be able to reach goals that they have set together.

I definitely liked the visual as it was very clear and easy to understand. This article basically backs up what our book said about organizational alignment being essential for an organization's success. It was a good read and on topic. As far as the author spelling it "organisational", I believe that is how they spell it in the UK.
